Color of the Year 2018 - Ultra Violet

The color that Pantone picked for 2018 is a shade of Cleopatra's Favorite Color Purple.

A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.
Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.

Enigmatic purples have also long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. Nuanced and full of emotion, the depth of PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.

Historically, there has been a mystical or spiritual quality attached to Ultra Violet. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s over-stimulated world. The use of purple-toned lighting in meditation spaces and other gathering places energizes the communities that gather there and inspire connection.

Purple or Ultra Violet isn't a shade that I would pick while designing or staging. Not to say it doesn't work... I I have seen spaces styled with the color that look absolutely stunning !

What do you think of this pick ? Not sure I would use Ultra Violet for Carpets or Walls ...

... but maybe a few accent pieces ... Agate Top Accent Table or Art or even Pillows.

Until then, Happy Styling !

National Home Staging Industry Awards : Top 10 Professional Home Stager 2017

I am super excited to have been recognized as one of the Top 10 Home Stagers of the Year 2017 at the National Home Staging Summit held in Dallas, Texas.
The entry to these awards was through nomination. That means another Home Staging Professional nominated me. The nomination itself was really humbling ... and winning it means so much more.

I pride in staging and styling spaces true to the property's architecture, style and the target prospective buyer. And strive to make the entire process seamless, stress-free and enjoyable ...both for the Client & myself !
Here is a sneak-peek of two of my recent Home Staging Projects ...

The National Summit itself was intense ... lots of Learning and Sharing. Met Home Stagers & Designers from all over the country. A great line-up of Industry Experts for the panel of speakers. Lots of great ideas and Inspiration. Can't wait to implement everything I learnt into my business to grow and serve my clients better.
Because like I always say... Happy Clients = Happy Me !

Top 5 Benjamin Moore Gray Colors for Home Staging

One of the most popular recommendations while staging or prepping a home / property for sale is to add a fresh coat of paint. It brings an instant freshness and gives an updated look to the space.
The best go-to paint colors for home staging are in the Gray - Griege { which is a gray & beige combo } section. There are so many lovely Grays to choose from - Warm Grays , Cool Grays , Traditional Grays, Modern Grays , Blue Grays, Green Grays etc !

Here are my favorite Benjamin Moore paint colors that I use & recommend for my staging projects :

A light gray with warm undertones, this classic shade is perfect for an open floor plan.

A very approachable light gray color that pairs beautifully with modern finishes like marble and stainless steel. Perfect for urban / contemporary homes.

Inherently sophisticated, this timeless color from their off-white collection looks great in any space.

A soft blue-gray, this is an { almost } no-fail light gray for modern homes.

It is a light gray with warm undertones. Perfect to add that extra bit of warmth to areas packed with cool finishes like marble & glass.

Here are 2 other Benjamin Moore Grays that are darker and I use them mainly for accent walls or to feature rooms & spaces like the den or library...

It's a very rich dark gray that can add a ton of personality to spaces especially as a feature wall.

This is a medium toned gray that's perfect to add a hint of urbane sophistication to any space.

One of the general rules { for staging homes } though is to pick a neutral color that can have a wider appeal and at the same time isn't just vanilla or plain white that fades into the background. But you can't just pick any neutral color { or any gray } for any home and hope that it works. It is very important to choose the right one !

Choosing the Right Shade of Gray depends on these 3 main factors :
1. The Amount of Light coming in to the space & the Light Source {  natural , artificial }
2. The Direction / Orientation of the rooms
3. Main Interior Finishes : Light Woods, Dark woods , Marble, Brick etc

Other key factors to consider include the style of the house & the target buyer demographic.

A fresh coat of paint will help a house get sold,
but choosing the right color can make sellers thousands of dollars richer. "

Here is an excerpt from an interesting article published in Market Watch :
... colors that increased home prices included grays and beiges. Painting walls in fresh,
natural-looking colors, particularly in shades of blue and pale gray not only make a home feel larger, but also are neutral enough to help future buyers envision themselves living in the space.

Have you used any of the above Benjamin Moore grays before for staging your home  or to refresh / restyle your home ? Which one is your favorite ? Do share with us.
Until then...Happy Staging & Styling !
